Overview
Japanese has four ways to express conditional relationships (“if / when”), where the second clause (S2) depends on the first clause (S1). All four express a condition, but each carries its own distinct nuance. Choosing the right one is one of the trickiest — and most rewarding — skills in intermediate Japanese.
